Satisfield Customer - Betterliving Patio & Sunrooms by Rusco

“I am absolutely thrilled with the screen room I ordered from Betterliving by Rusco.  Chad gave me an informative description of the product, installation, possibilities, and confidence in him.   He often said to me "Don't worry Marylin, we will take good care of you, you decide what you want, and you're going to love this room".  Well, Chad was right on all counts....    The installers were Masters of their Specialties:   Marylin Carroll sunroomPete, Bob, Slim, Larry.  Kindness, thoughtfulness, and professionalism were constant.  I loved doing business with you and I would strongly recommend Betterliving by Rusco to everyone".

Marylin Carroll

Hello dear Chad..................I think of you so often and hope that your success is carrying over into 2012 nicely.  Our Screen Room withstood the test of time.......  The other night we had the most outrageous Rain and WIND.
Next morning I casually walked out to the back door...............The screen room was intact and still there.    See, you hire the right company and the right men..... And you get the right job done!!  These fair days I've been using the screen room just about every day........fresh air and peaceful relaxation do not require 80 degree temperatures.

Rusco says save money on Heating

winterizing home resized 600Save Money on Heating

(a)  Insulation

Make sure that attic in the house is fully insulated; remember heat rises and most of the heat that you generate in your house is lost through the roof. It is simple to buy good quality insulation from all the main DIY superstores and this could be one investment very much worth making.  Don’t want to do it your self we can help you.  There are more products than you probably know about that is on the market, designed so your home will not loose energy.

(b) Good Quality Windows

At Rusco we can’t say enough about this.  Ensure that your windows are in good condition, no broken or cracked pains, the wood surround is in good condition, the paintwork is kept in good order with regular refreshes of paint to stop rot and damp. Double glazed windows are a must if you want to keep the heat in and stop the cold and damp from coming through. With in any budget new replacement windows are a great investment in today’s energy concise times.  Can’t afford a whole house full of replacement windows then do the job in stages.   Rusco wants our customers to be confident about what they are buying is a quality product that will last a life time.  Since we measure, build and install our own windows, we know what it takes for a window to last the elements time.  We build quality vinyl windows and we sell other quality products design to be around as long as we have been in business.  All replacement windows are not the same and only a manufacture of a window can tell you the difference.  Does a Yugo have the same quality as a Lexus?  Not every window is the same either.

Don’t want replacement windows?  Are you in a restricted area where a full replacement window is not allowed?  Then new storm windows will help energy cost and storm windows can be made with Low E coatings to deflect energy and save you money.

(c) Internal and External Doors

Make sure that you have good external doors; these should be double glazed also and be fitted properly with seals for the letter box and the surrounds. The internal doors in the house should all shut properly and make good seals and have draft excluders where appropriate.

External doors such as those by ProVia out of Sugar Creek, Oh. are energy star certified, made of multiple materials and can have R Values as high as 15.  No, these doors are not your “Box” store doors. These doors are prefinished professional grade doors designed to save you money and last a lifetime.   Ask us about our doors.

Rusco says "Go Green" and save money on electricity

Rusco of Roanoke believes green and sells green.  We have been “saving you energy year round” for decades.  Here are some simple combined tips that should help you save money.

Save Money on Electricity

(a)  Energy Saving Light Bulbssave money by switching electricity companies resized 600

Fit energy saving light bulbs to all your lights, this not only helps to keep your electricity bills down but at the same time you are doing your part for the environment. On average the light saving bulb will last up to 12 times longer than the normal light bulb and reduce the amount of electricity required by 1/3 for compact fluorescents or possibly ½ using the newer L.E.D.s.  A standard “Thomas Edison” light bulb puts off more heat in comparison to any new bulbs so on a summers day less heat from lighting means less AC to cool your home.  In other words that means less electricity you use, which equals more money in your pocket.

Did you know the standard 100 watt bulb will not be sold in the US after Jan. 2012 and that the standard 40 watt bulb will no longer be sold after Jan. 2014.

(b)  No Electrical Equipment on Standby

Make sure you turn your electrical equipment and sockets off when you are not using them, especially television, videos, DVD players that have standby modes, these use more electricity than you would think.

 (c)  Electrical Safety Checks

Get your wiring and circuits professionally checked to ensure that your appliances are working to their optimum capacity.  Have you checked that ground default switch in your bathroom lately. Probably not but they don’t last forever and are designed so that you don’t get a serious, possibly life endangering B-U-Z-Z when around water.

 (d)  Shade

Every window and every door can in most cases have an awning.  Awnings block solar heat gain.  Retractable awnings allow homes to heat up in the winter and cool better in the summer. Metal awnings are much more durable than canvas awnings but in the end both save homeowners money.

Al Grubb - 55 years with Rusco

What does fifty five years mean to you?  To some this could be a lifetime, a time from birth to death.  For a few it could be a time that is regretted or best forgotten. For others it’s a goal or a period in time to reach.  Most of the time if you see 55 years in print it’s attached to a companies name and refers to the time a company has been in business.

describe the image

At one point fifty five years was a norm for a time a couple stayed married and an outstanding goal. Long gone is that goal.  But rare is what I am referring too. Fifty five years on the job with the same company.  Monday, Oct. 3, 2011 our own Al Grubb has been with Rusco Window Company for 55 years. Rare is because most companies do not stay in business that long and even less likely is an employee in today’s economy who has been employed at the same company.   During that time period starting in 1956 if my math is correct, Al Grubb has moved through many different rolls and positions with Rusco.  He still remembers any product Rusco has ever built, most of its employees or any one he has met.  I bet he can remember most every job he has ever been on.  He has seen the development of a family owned company from the founder then passed on to the family and then passed on to another family, the Lawrence’s.  Today Al Grubb is our metal awning department, manufacturing a product that is as strong and hand crafted as it was in the 1950’s.  Al started his job when black and white photos were rare and no one took job photos.  A few days ago I helped Al take a photo of a machine he uses regularly in the making of the awnings.  That digital photo was then sent to a supplier inTexasso a part may be ordered when needed.  I’m sure when he started with Rusco he could not dream of such technologies of today. I’m also sure neither he nor his employer would have thought that fifty five years later he would still be with the company.  The day I helped him with the photo he had said something to me to the affect that if he had a nickel for every lineal foot of material that he had run through that machine, he would be one very rich man.  Quality employees like Al and others with Rusco is what makes Rusco the quality company it is. It’s a company that cares about what it builds, how it works and how it will last. Like Al’s awnings and Al himself they stand the test of time.

From everyone at Rusco and the Lawrence Companies, thanks Al for the many dedicated years of service with Rusco.

Through the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy, energy efficiency man resized 600 there is approximately $5 million available for a new “Virginia Home Efficiency Rebate Program” to make existing homes more energy efficient.  Among other energy efficient improvements are installing “Energy Star” certified RUSCO vinyl replacement windows and Provia steel and fiberglass entry doors.  Under this program, homeowners will be eligible to reserve funds for rebates for 20% of the costs of qualifying energy conserving products and services, up to $595.00.  DMME will accept applications online at www.dmme.virginia.gov on a first-come, first serve basis until the funding has been reserved.  A waiting list will also be created, and applicants will be placed on that list in order that they are received.  As approved rebates are redeemed and paid, additional funds from unclaimed rebates will allow approval of requests on the waiting list.  Energy efficient equipment and items purchased and installed on or after March 26, 2010 will be eligible for the rebate if they meet all other eligibility requirements.  This rebate is available toVirginia homeowners only. Virginia homeowners will have 60 days to complete their projects once their reservation is approved.  So call me now for your windows and doors, before the money runs out.

You get what you pay for

penny saved penny earned resized 600Quotes, their famous and they are the one liners of the world that should tell someone what they really should already know.  A penny saved is a penny earned.  Very true you save enough pennies and you will one day earn something.   Now we all know that most quotes come from those that have already learned an invaluable lesson and want to pass that lesson on with out shall I say a whole lot of “Hoop La”.  In the home improvement industries, where I go into peoples homes and give free in home estimates, I am sure to use some type of quote.  I use to always use an analogy when trying to compare a Rusco window to another product such as a, “Hyundai is not a Cadillac.”  Well, times they do change.  Some business gets better and some go bankrupt.  Today, I am more likely to be quoted to say, “A Yugo is not a Lexus” to compare the quality difference in our replacement windows to a $149 or $189 window ad.  I still wonder some times if people can see the big picture or do they just let the quote go in one ear and out the other.  Even other countries have sayings.  There is a  Chinese saying,  一分钱一分货, "yi fen qian, yi fen huo" (pronounced ee fen chee-ahn, ee fen hoo-oh). This translates literally into one cent gives you one cent’s worth of merchandise.  Makes sense, right?  Well I think that gets pretty well close to “You Get What You Pay For”.  Of course I think maybe I should switch to what Mark Twain once said, “A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way.”   What I am trying to say is simple. What ever you’re buying don’t buy into all the simple gimmicks that are out there.  Look at the big picture the quality of the company and longevity of the product.  A quick gimmick to get you in your home should lead you to an understanding in the end that once you have the price, the product was not the price that it was advertised to be.  Let’s face it.  If you need ten windows and the add reads $189 dollars per window.  Well you can do the math and should know that is $1890 dollars.  So once that salesperson gives that presentation and the small performance of dancing on their window and setting it a fire is over, in the end the price is higher than $1890.  Should you not be wondering did you get suckered into letting this person in my house?  Is this what bait and hook means?  Some times if what you want is the cheapest price it is what you get.  In the end once those windows are in your home, do you have someone to help you if you have a problem.  Are they going to stick with you if you have a complaint and solve that problem?  Will the installer when your windows arrive at your home pull a window from the ones going into your home and stand and dance on the window like the salesman who came into your home?  In any bid situation where price is the deciding factor either the product or the labor will be cheaper to get the price lower.  Any good product with bad labor leads to the same means end as great labor and a bad product. How many times can you remember a government job in the news that turned out with the product or the job itself to be useless or just did not work.  How many times in those situations do you remember someone saying well it was low bid.  Most every highway road improvement jobs are low bid and we know those always turn out right and never have to be re worked or re done.  To end on a light hearted note,OliverWendellHomeswas once quoted to say, “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.”  If you are having home improvements done on your home I hope your experience will be a good one.
